Schwarz vending machine system

Electronic vending system

Client
Schwarz Automaten
Sector
Special machinery
Scope
Mechanics · Electronics · Controls

For Schwarz Automaten we realised an entirely new vending machine system — from the initial idea to a series-produced solution. The starting point was a fundamental market shift: classic coin-operated machines are reaching their limits, as no coin larger than two euros exists any more. It was clear that machines would in future have to be operated and controlled electronically.

Starting point: the previous operating concept with mechanical coin logic — analysed as the basis for the electronic redesign.

From sketch to concept

The basic idea: several machines holding different products are combined into one shared system and controlled centrally via a keypad. After the product is selected, the relevant machine is addressed electronically and the chosen product is dispensed.

First sketches led to several solution approaches, which were assessed for packaging space, mechanics, electronics and operating logic. This early phase already defined the essential parameters for layout, cycle sequence and operation — laying the foundation for the further development.

Functional prototype: electronics and mechanics tested in combination — en route to the series solution.

Engineering with series production in mind

On the way to series maturity, mechanics, electronics and controls were aligned step by step. From the design stage onward, the focus was on economical production and simple assembly. At the same time the users' needs were central: easy refilling for the operator and intuitive operation for the end customer.

The result in operation: the vending system with electronic product selection, illuminated product presentation and card payment.
Result

From the initial idea of merging several machines into one electronically controlled system came a production-ready product that implements the market's changed requirements — away from coin operation, towards electronic control — consistently and with high technical maturity.
