BORA BASIC

Cooktop extractor system

Client
BORA
Sector

Scope
Product development · Series engineering

For BORA we have been developing for many years — for example the BASIC cooktop extractor system, from the initial idea to series production. The starting point was a clearly defined specification: a compact, functionally integrated cooktop with downdraft extraction that had to hold its own technically, visually and commercially.

Starting point: the concept sketch with the key installation dimensions for cooktop and ventilation unit — cooktop, downdraft extraction and the space available in the cabinet below, in an isometric view.

From sketch to concept

Starting from the first concept sketch with the key installation dimensions for cooktop and ventilation unit, we developed several approaches and assessed them for packaging, manufacturing effort and assembly. The goal was to lay out the parts so they could be produced economically and assembled efficiently — without compromising function or perceived quality.

The technical concept in cross-section: cooktop, fan unit, electronics and cable routing coordinated as one compact, production-ready system.

Engineering with series production in mind

Design for manufacture and assembly informed the work from the concept phase onward: material selection, part geometry and interfaces were laid out so that production and assembly are economically viable — the basis for a product that also succeeds commercially for the client.

The result: BORA BASIC in series production — all specification requirements met, optimised for manufacture and assembly.
Result

From the first sketch came a series product that meets every requirement of the specification and has established itself successfully since launch. Design for manufacture and assembly was an input to the design work, not a later correction. Development and design were completed within one year, through to tool handover.
